MONGO 10 : THE NIGHTMARE ENDS

The Verminators are still in the running.. amazingly.

YOU : the firebomb is in place and activated. YOU ducks back into the Cargo Central and shuts the door, hopefully forever, on the SciTech module. The countdown begins.


TEQUILA is occupied keeping the door to the Bridge locked against the Philth.
HIGGINS : weary from blood loss hefts the HEMG and lets the wounded harpy - the only one remaining in Cargo Central - have a burst. In his weakened state HIGGINS makes a lousy shot but it is enough to wound the harpy which already has 2 hits on it and it slithers to the deck twitching in its death throes.
SNITMEISTER : has no ammo left for his shotgun but he is fit and the best candidate to carry the incapacitated PETTYBONE to safety. Poor rolls means he just gets to his comrade.
KONGO : has, basically, had enough. He shambles toward the door back to the port cargo bay.
Poor old TROTSKY languishes on top of the tank. oozing his life's blood and hazily hoping the others have not forgotten about him.

THREAT TURN

The harpy remaining in Propulsion-Engineering wriggles through the conduit into cargo central. This gives KONGO the willies but his binge is not yet down to zero.

The harpies in SciTech start to recover and move toward cargo central but their time is short now....

The Philth now try to bypass TEQUILAs lock by finding the over-ride. They just happen to be on the Bridge!!! ooeerrr.

VERMINATOR TURN

There is a live harpy in Cargo Central.... who can deal with it?
KONGO is wavering but can get a shot off. But he acts last in the turn sequence...tricky..
HIGGINS could but it means SNITMEISTER has to -DUCK!.
TEQUILA is the key man to block the Philth so he is occupied.

YOU has remembered KONGO is carrying a directional mine!!!! and moves to get it from him.
TEQUILA maintains his watch on the bridge.

HIGGINS winds up his gun. SNITMEISTER -DUCK!s Shells blast across the deck into the harpy.
The dice tower rattles... 12 !  A headshot.
The harpy gelatinises before it has a chance to choose a victim.

The harpy dead-pile. Quite impressive. There were actually a couple more.
SNITMEISTER gets off the deck and grabs his comrade to start dragging him to safety.

KONGO gives the directional mine to YOU

THREAT TURN

Harpies move towards door.
Philthy Freddie at the control panel fails to find the door override, he will therefore find it next turn..


VERMINATOR TURN
YOU sets up the DM in front of the Bridge door. But he cannot also get out of the way yet.
Tequila stays to cover YOU.

HIGGINS limps to wards safety. He cannot help TROTSKY.
SNITMEISTER carries PETTYBONE towards safety.
KONGO waits at the door to Port Cargo, dazed and bleeding.

THREAT TURN
HARPIES move falteringly, cannot do much now.
Philthy Freddie activates the Bridge door to open it...........

The door whirs to the side.

Philthy Theo, hefts his laser rifle to shoot at YOU but at the same time notices the green box on the floor at YOU's feet. hmmmm
 BAAANG !! goes the directional mine.

Philthy Theo gets a wound and his binge drains away, he runs into a corner. Philthy Freddie, fresh from his technical triumph of opening the Bridge door gets a handfull of high speed flechettes in his back and dies instantly, Philthy Frank, already wounded gets finished off. Philthy Frodo hits the deck, incapacitated.  The ( less than outstandng ) threat  from the Philth has been eliminated..

VERMINATOR TURN
The essential element of Verminator strategy is now RUN LIKE HELL!!
This they all do as far as their wounds allow. It falls to YOU to rescue TROTSKY.
TEQUILA backs up keeping the bridge covered.

Hobble Awaaayyyy!
 As the team struggles into the airlock leaving a sticky trail of blood they hear a dull KRUMP! in the background as the firebomb ignites inside the harpy nest. Against all odds the primary objective is achieved.



MONGO - MISSION ACHIEVEMENT : POST MORTEM REPORT

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE ..Eliminate Harpies - achieved
SECONDARY CONTAMINATION ..untouched
COMPETITORS..Philth were all wounded or killed.
PERIPHERAL BENEFITS .. No good profitable finds.
CATASTROPHE was avoided by a 30% margin

TEAM EXPERIENCES..
YOU gained 2 gold stars
TEQUILA nothing special
HIGGINS wounded, very nearly cracked mentally but limped home
SNITMEISTER gained no less than 3 gold stars
PETTYBONE incapacitated, gained a gold star
TROTSKY incapacitated, 1 gold star
KONGO wounded, limps out.

Some cargo was damaged and a possibly valuable stowaway was accidentally killed.


In all it was a mixed bag but the team must be glad to get away. No doubt the careers of some are at an end. YOU did surprisingly well and may have saved his neck to avoid demotion.

Nobody got any swag to burn on their recuperation leave. Noone would be able to take courses and gain extra skills or buy new weapons or gear. PETTYBONE and TROTSKY lie in their hospital beds hoping their new limbs and skin grafts have a good colour match with the originals.....

Just how will Verminator Trotsky react to his newly regenerated body?
DF accountants frown and examine their spreadsheets. The Pest Control Division really must be pressed to deliver better returns than this!

MONGO 9

THREAT TURN
The Harpies in Propulsion/Engineering begin to move to the identified wriggle-through. The one which got through makes a bee-line for Pettybone. Pettybone has no actions left but manages to draw his cutlass as the harpy leaps. Along with his rugged physique, this gives him an impressive 5 melee dice against the harpy's 4. Both throw miserably and 2 rounds of hacking and slashing see no wounds inflicted.

In P/E the motley queue forming to join the party has to work its way around the Antibian net vines but they seem rather docile today and neither specimen gets activated by the movement.

In SciTech the bull harpy shrugs off its wound and lumbers back toward the hive entrance. 2 healthy harpies proceed to try and find a way through to the troublesome Verms.

Over in the Crews Quarters the Philth finally get some gumption together and open the door to bridge. BANG goes the mine the Verms laid in preparation. Ugh! go the Philth. The Philth leader is killed and two get a wound each...surprisingly light casualties. That stops them for this turn.

 VERM TURN

YOU . vacillates and waits
TEQUILA takes covering position and waits
TOLSTOY get fed up with clomping around in the loader and climbs out of it. Waits with his HAR
SNITMEISTER takes up position with the shotgun to cover the emerging harpies
KONGO moves over to Higgins with his regen pack to help him recover.

 PETTYBONE continues his epic slugfest with the harpy but disaster strikes.. the harpy gets 2 hits on him for no reply and Pettybone goes down..... things are warming up....

THREAT TURN

Harpies : The one in with the Verms makes for Snitmeister and gets a shotgun cartridge for his very own. This is the last piece of good news for a while...
Blam..lots of green blood

The harpy that slashed Pettybone to the deck jumps onto Kongo - Kongo is tough , he has +2 grappling dice - and the harpy has a wound.

 BUT IT IS NO GOOD! The dice are against Kongo and he is wounded. Still tough , he fights again with his attacker but the dice fail him, another hit! and we have lost Kongo!!!!
KONGO 5 dice no hits. HARPY 2 dice 1 hit

The P/E harpies advance  .. another gets through the conduit into cargo central.. no net vines activate.

Philth: Not the most dynamic of opponents, but the pallid ones adavance..eyeing up the door into cargo central.

In SciTech the bull and the other harpies search for a way through to their  unwelcome visitors.


Things just went from worse to extremely dodgy. 2 ean incapacitated, 1 man wounded. Enemy on three sides. 1 stoway accidentally toasted, 1 cargo tank damaged by heat. No valuable rummage finds. Chances of completeing the objective - eradicating the hive - seem slim.

VERMINATOR TURN

YOU decides to up the ante - if the robo-gun can lessen the odds maybe the hive can be burnt before things get even worse in cargo central. there is plenty of ammo in the robogun and the door bottleneck should still work..... he presses his very sweaty palm onto the door pad...

The door opens..the robo gun swivels and blasts the harpy it detects ..2 wounds which throw it to the back of the module. 1 down..

Tequila is the only one who can cover the door into Command/Control  and face the Philth. he turns and waits.

Trotsky tries to save Kongo by jumping up onto the adjacent tank and tries to shoot the smelly scaley attacker off him. he steadies his shaking weapon and blam..!Trotsky's aim is true but he only succeeds in knocking the harpy away and inflicts no further damage

Snitmeister is last to act; he is alone with his heavy weapon and has to use an action to reload the large canister. No fumble. he does it successfully. He aims and fires  at the harpy coming through the conduit. When the dust clears he sees the target is badly wounded but still standing! And Snitmeiste has only 1 canister remaining.

THREAT TURN

Small mercies..the Antibian net vine is finally triggered and engulfs a harpy in P/E.Harpys have little chance of ever getting free. it is doomed to slow composting...  but another wriggles through into central cargo and the shotgunned specimen even manages to recover 1 wound.

In SciTec a harpy throws itself at the Robogun. for its pains it gets plastered onto the back bulkhead with its friend, leaking from 2 wounds.

Now the bull harpy - the dangerous one...  it leaps at the doorway and tries to push the robogun out of the way. But the gun reacts and sends a searing salvo og high explosive shells into the bull's hard chest carapace- which holds. The bull is flung to the back of the module, but takes no further wounds!!! eek
 Now the harpy so recently shot off Kongo has a go at its tormenter and springs up at Trotsky still perched on the tank.  Trotsky has no actions left, he has to grapple with his assailant. he does, however, manage to get his cutlass out. He hacks, the harpy slashes ..he gets a hit in the harpy's throat but the flailing talons and tail of the wounded harpy are still dangerous and Trotsky collapses bleeding profusely from 2 wounds. he joins the pile of bloody Verminators in that corner of cargo central.
 Meanwhile, the Philth ... they shamble to the door and get ready to make an assault through it next turn.



This is the bloodiest mission for a long time. MONGO is no easy task to decontaminate. The mission may even prove to be unsurvivable!!

Now is the time for levity.. raise morale with a quick glance at  .....HERE.. and think of the Fleshpots of Erotoid9 where any prize money can be squandered !

VERMINATOR TURN

What to do ? YOU keeps his nerve..the nest entrance is in reach .. it must be bombed.

YOU moves to the nest entrance, holds back the vomit rising in his throat and places the firebomb. as he does so he muses that he has now stood in the way of the robogun and 4 angry harpies are bleeding and screeching at the back of the SciTec module.

 TEQUILA sets his palm on the door pad and locks it to keep the Philth out. aend waits.

HIGGINS - now with only 1 wound - struggles to his feet, reloads the HEMG and gets ready to fight again.  he notices ther eis a lot of blood lying around. A good portion of it his own..
 KONGO summons all his strength and lets rip at the harpy standing over Trotsky's bleeding form. The harpy is sent flying across the module but is not wounded.

SNITMEISTER now has a chance to save the day ! As he tries to shove the LAST canister into the breech of the shotgun he can feel the breath of no less than 3 harpies in the corner of the module in front of him. If he can take these 3 down with his last shot the Verminators may get out of this hellhole alive !



First, the canister must go in . FUMBLE test....passed! The last one is in. He levels the weapon and centres the blast arc amongst the 3 harpies. BLAAAAM!!

Two harpies are sliced by a hail of flechettes and flop to the deck as a horrible mess reminiscent of corned beef mixed with battery acid. The remaining harpy (wishing no doubt, he had Brexited prior to this point in time.). is wounded - it now has 2 wounds and is feeling baaaaad.

 The verms can do no more this turn...will it prove to be enough?
