INTRODUCING THE PhilTh MONGO EPISODE 2

Continuing on the MONGO....

The bridge was cleared with careful expenditure of measured blasts from the HEMG and the Shotgun. No damage to consoles..whew. Some HEMG ammo found in a locker..very useful.

At this point the Verms hear an ominous grating and scraping sound throughout the ship.
A message from MOTHER (the drone mission-capsule the Verms arrived in) informs YOU that a small ship has locked onto the hull of the MONGO and is drilling through with its lockbridge.

As the team is conferring as to what they should do next, the port door to the bride whirs open.
(At this point I notice a set-up error, this should have been a single-width door but I misplaced a wide cargo-door, oops).

A scatter of red laser shots and  a grenade - deflected into a corner and exploding harmlessly - signals the arrival of a group of Competitors. These Competitors are 'The PhilTh'.

The PhilTh are more respectfully known as 'The Philosophical Theosophists'.

They are a  religious sect which has establishe ditself among various colonies. Their appeal is that they offer something to mitigate the unparalled awfulness of life on some colonised worlds. (DF spend a lot of time censoring comms to avoid different colonies accurately reportin goin their status to Terra or other colonies).

Philosophical Theosophist reason that a god is inevitable in such a vast and varied universe and that on all planets symbol sand signs of his presence are hidden and can be found. In addition they consider man should try to exist without exploiting pristine worlds.

Thus they love re-purposing or re-ownering ships and stuff. Like Galactic Scrap-Men they plunder drifters and the occasional unfortunate freighter.

Thus they are also vegans. This plays havoc with their health and appearance. They are physically weaker than Verms and bear a passing resemblance to zombies of ancient tales. Oh, and they smell terrible because they try not to pollute water too much.
They also use a lot of time inside on meditation and prayer and reading. Look a bit pale.

The PhilTh use HE and gas grenades and Laser Rifles along with normal hand-blasters and cutlasses. They have to wear a breather-supplement pack to allow their damaged and weak lungs to function.

A brief exchang eof fire convinced the PhilTh to close the door again and now the Verms have an annoying problem behind their flank as they proceed with their mission.

Use of the bridge scanners determines that the Harpy Hive is in the SciTech Module............

New Pest

A nice shiny new pest !. One that comes in nice bright colours - may not need painting.
I got them for a song on ebay - Chink, of course. Amazing they can be made and sent across the galaxy for so little. Environmental considerations are for naught in the global economy.

Anyway..what're they like ?

Lovely jelly-like plastic gives the soft parts a nice glow. The base is of cast resin. The size is perfect for my scale..a tad under 6cm per square on the ships. Suitably fearsome for a Verminator to tackle.

I think I will detach all the soft corals/squirts and fit hard pegs so they can be added and removed from the base.

The tubeworms look nice and exotic. Capable of having a Verm's head off, no doubt!

Multibrachia galactica pestiferentia : Galactic Tubeworm

This alien will turn up as a secondary contamination on some ships.

The animal is an individual with several multi-armed heads which have a neck protected by a chitinous tube.

They spread by spores being introduced into the ship. The immature individuals will detach and ooze along the deck until they find a place to attach that seems to offer a supply of food. In the mobile state they are insignificant blobs of jelly.

When the individual is ready to die it detaches any remaining immatures and explodes in a storm of spores if a reasonable-sized organism is nearby. They can live up to several centuries but feed only 5 times before they want to sporificate and die.

The base is a protective mass of metallic and organic encrustation which hides and protects the nervous system.

The animal is immobile in the adult form.It captures organisms and waits for them to rot and provide nutrients to the roots in the base.

3 heads protect up to 9 immature individuals which have no offensive capability.

Dice for 3+D6 immatures on the base.

When approached ... first dice if the animal is ready to sporificate. A 6 means it will do so when any pest or Verm comes within 2 squares. A 5 means it has a rotting prey on the base and will not attack. But anytime a pest or verm is within 2 it must make a sporification test.

A sporification storm covers all squares within 2 of the animal's base. All individuals become clogged with adhesive spores that have the effect of a wound. They can be removed by TREATMENT in a sickbay or use of a REGEN KIT. Or 6 turns of use of a cutlass by a helpful colleague (if one can be found willing to hang around in the same place so long on a drifter!).

The Galactic Tubeworm strikes at anything which moves in adjacent squares. It can reach up to intermediate height.
It only has 1 D6 grapple dice but 6 always hits. If a head is hit it retracts and will not attack next round.
A hit means that the mouth and tentacles are locked onto the target which is instantly dragged onto the tubeworm's base.
Then the immature individuals strike also with a 6 needed to hit. Hits from immatures just mean another adhesion to the animal which must be broken to escape.

Adhesion can be broken by a successful attack with a cutlass. The adult worms are tougher and count as armoured.

Enough natural history..I must get them ready and used in a game..

(Find them on ebay under 'resin artificial coral fake aquarium'.  Other tubeworms are available.)

Bridge Assault in Gundam Style ! MONGO EPISODE 1

Another day, another Antarean Platinum Galacto-Dollar...

The chaps have burst into the port cargo bay of a jobbing freighter - MONGO.

The scaled-down shipmap - which uses elements from a foam rubber giant dice - shows tha layout of the MONGO.
Propulsion and engineering, Sci-Tech, Cargo, Cargo, Mess, Bridge, Crew Quarters

A bit of a chaotic start, but the Harpies inside were quickly wasted.

Slightly problematic outcome in that a stowaway crushed into a Bio-container was found to have perished when the generous use of grenades resulted in his pod being shredded. Ah well!
Nothing fantastic amongst these cargo loads but a Loader Suit is stationed here if we have to carry something heavy out of the ship later !
Next bay was deserted, thankfully, and we head for the bridge. Which reads as a hot-spot on the bio-sensor.

YOU suddenly had a bright idea .... there is a Robo-gun in the central cargo bay. Couple this with a Loader Suit ..hmmmmmmm

Snitmeister has the relevant license, he struggles into the Loader and it picks up the Robo-gun.
You  operate the door to reveal .... the poor-man's gundam is born !!!

Gundam Snitmeister enters the bridge of the Mongo !
The Harpies were not that amused .... 2 ran straight at the Loader.
The Robo-gun activated and blasted the one on the right. The one on the left was neatly grabbed by Snitmeister in the Loader's tongs. And gently crushed.. But both got a few bites and slashes in.

But...ironically..after the rapid demise of these two aggressive Harpies ( one of which dealt some damage points on the loader) the 4 others went into hiding behind the furniture. The Loader could not go further in and risk getting outflanked and further damaged. The rest of the Team cannot blithely lob grenades of flame around because this is the bridge and we need data from the various consoles..

The final situation is a standoff..Ammo being finished, Snitmeister retreats and we all have to plan
how the assault should continue !

Other highlights included the attempts by Kongo to operate the Robo-gun with a drone-controller he found before we all remembered a Robo-gun is not a drone...
also...throwing the wrong dice for the Robo-gun made it wierdly ineffective to begin with...

DEVELOPMENTS

BTR-80 soon to be converted.

Working on the conversion of an 'Aliens' cargo loader to a safer version for -DUCK!

I made the new control to be joysticks hidden behind the panel. The film version with arms extending out of the cage was just too dangerous to pass Health and Safety inspection on Deep Freight vessels. Also an armoured-perspex head protection shield will be added. The grips and arms are now articulated too. A true 54mm figure will now fit into the loader. Original is made by SUPER 7 MUSCLE - odd charicature figures.
